Always Keep Growing
2 Peter 3:17-18 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
Peter says, “Beware!” We hear that word over and over in Scripture. In this case Peter warns us to beware that we do not fall from our steadfastness. What does he mean by that? Peter was concerned that Christians would become complacent and take their commitment to follow Jesus for granted. Believers sometimes get lazy in their faith, and when they do, there is a great chance they might be led astray by the errors of wicked people.
How do we combat that? How do we remain steadfast, committed, resolute in our faith? We grow. We continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In that way we will not be led astray. Growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus we will help us remain doctrinally stable and morally sound. It is by grace and knowledge that we are protected from stumbling into evil.
Earlier in this epistle Peter said it is true knowledge of Jesus that leads us to godly living, and it is only by His grace that we can attain that knowledge. So, we cannot stop growing spiritually. We must keep moving forward, pressing toward the goal of the prize, as Paul put it. If we neglect to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we might be led into sin by wicked people, and none of us ever want to do that. So, we must always keep growing.
Have a God Filled Week,
